Heather Bowers has spent more than a decade recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and coaching pilots and aviation professionals.
Her pilot recruiting career began in 2014 when she built the first dedicated pilot recruiting department at CommuteAir, a United Express carrier. As a one-person operation, Heather managed nearly every aspect of pilot recruiting and hiring—from university and flight school partnerships and recruiting events to interviewing candidates, extending job offers, and scheduling new-hire classes.
In 2015, Heather was recruited by Piedmont Airlines, where she became one of two people responsible for recruiting, interviewing, and hiring the airline's pilots. She later trained new pilot recruiters, helped develop the pilot interview process, spearheaded the Military Transition Program, and supported initiatives including the Cadet Program.
In 2017, Heather was recruited by American Airlines to become its first Manager of Pilot Career Recruiting. There, she interviewed pilot candidates, led major pilot recruiting events, created American's first virtual pilot career fair, worked with Envoy, Piedmont, and PSA to oversee regional pilot recruiting efforts, helped launch the American Airlines Cadet Academy, and managed a $1 million flight education grant and scholarship program.
What makes Heather's background unique is her experience on both sides of pilot hiring: recruiting candidates and participating directly in pilot selection and interviewing. She knows what happens after an application is submitted—and what hiring teams are actually looking for.
After leaving the airline industry in 2019, Heather founded Aviator Mentor, where she now uses that experience to help pilots and aviation professionals strengthen their applications and résumés, prepare for interviews, and navigate their careers.
Heather is also the co-author of Landing an Aviation Career: From Pilots to Managers to Air Traffic Controllers, a university-level aviation career textbook and workbook co-authored with Professor Jeffrey C. Price. The materials are taught by Professor Price at Metropolitan State University of Denver, bringing Heather's real-world recruiting, hiring, and career-development experience into the aviation classroom.
From recruiting pilots to interviewing them, hiring them, coaching them, and now helping educate the next generation of aviation professionals, Heather has built her career around helping others build theirs.

Heath Bowers has spent more than a decade flying, instructing, recruiting, interviewing, and mentoring pilots throughout the aviation industry.
Heath holds five flight instructor certificates and began his professional aviation career as a full-time staff flight instructor at Ohio University. His involvement in pilot recruiting began in 2014 at CommuteAir, where he attended recruiting events across the country while building his career as an airline pilot.
In 2016, Heath was recruited by Piedmont Airlines senior management to become the airline's first management pilot dedicated to pilot recruiting and hiring. In this unique role, he recruited and interviewed pilots full-time while maintaining flight currency and continuing to fly the DHC-8. Heath redesigned the pilot interview process and developed and delivered in-depth technical interview training for new pilot recruiters and interviewers.
In 2017, Heath left Piedmont to join American Airlines, where he is currently a Boeing 777 First Officer flying long-haul international routes across the Atlantic. He has continued supporting pilot recruiting and mentoring throughout his airline career, including helping develop a mentorship program for the airline's cadet program and being selected as one of three line pilots to participate in the airline's first virtual pilot career fair.
Like Heather, Heath brings experience from both sides of the pilot hiring process—recruiting candidates and directly participating in pilot selection and interviewing. Combined with his extensive instructional background and current experience as a widebody airline pilot, he brings both a hiring and pilot perspective to Aviator Mentor.
When Heath isn't flying internationally, he works alongside Heather helping Aviator Mentor clients prepare for interviews and navigate their aviation careers. Outside of aviation, Heath continues his commitment to public service as a volunteer firefighter in his hometown.
From flight instructing and pilot recruiting to interviewing, mentoring, and flying internationally for American Airlines, Heath has built his career around flying, teaching, and helping other pilots succeed.
